Every year, Janus Youth Programs provides more than 43,000 meals to homeless youth.

Few situations put a young person at greater risk than being homeless where they face exploitation, abuse and violence. For well over a quarter of a century our shelter and housing programs have been at the forefront of services providing thousands of youth with an accessible and supportive path out of homelessness each year.

Part of Portland’s Homeless Youth Continuum, our homeless youth services include street outreach, assessment, emergency and short-term shelter, transitional and independent housing and case management.

Now in its 40th year, Yellow Brick Road Street Outreach Program is one of the longest continually operating youth outreach programs in the Pacific Northwest. Professional Outreach Specialists are joined by community volunteers and peer mentors every night of the year to engage with young people experiencing homelessness “where they are at” on the streets of Portland. Yellow Brick Road makes over 1,000 meaningful contacts every month, assisting with immediate safety needs and providing immediate access to shelter and an array of community services designed to end youth homelessness. Yellow Brick Road assists Multnomah County and the City of Portland’s life-saving coordinated response to severe weather events by providing emergency transportation and connection to critical resources such as clean water, warm clothing, sunscreen and first-aid supplies.

To become a street outreach volunteer, fill out a volunteer form here. Volunteers must be over the age of 18 and are asked to make a six month commitment.

The single point-of-entry for youth ages 16 to 24 who are experiencing homelessness in Multnomah County and seeking services through Portland’s Homeless Youth Continuum, the Access Center is a mobile program that engages with youth every day of the year to determine eligibility, provide immediate crisis support and access to a wide array of community services. Youth seeking services have immediate access to basic needs and safe shelter off the streets. Screenings can be accommodated 365 days of the year between the hours of 9:00 am and 5:00 pm by calling to schedule a time to meet with a Youth Specialist.
